linkedin.com: Patient care, of course, is a hospital’s No. 1 priority. That’s why we’re here: to treat the sick, mend the injured, and nurture a healthier community. However, without research to unearth new discoveries and education to train future physicians, medicine would wither.

Our founders recognized this from the first day Cleveland Clinic opened its doors in 1921, describing our mission as, “Better care of the sick, investigation into their problems, and further education of those who serve.”

Modern medicine has changed drastically, even in just the last decade. The practice of medicine is increasingly a technology-dependent science. Electronic medical records, robotic surgery, telemedicine, advanced imaging, “big data,” and super-computers like IBM’s Watson have changed the medical landscape for the better. In order to treat patients effectively, doctors-in-training need to have access to every technological advance; their education must be state-of-the-art, offering students a real-world view of the ever-evolving healthcare environment.
